TV-MAKERS! stop portraying the nerd-charakter SO UTTERLY ÜBER-NERDY. we all get it. she’s purrty good with ‘puters, why all the “i know some pretty agressive data-retrieval techniques”-bullcrap then?
Which show exactly are you talking about? I can think of at least three that do it this way.
Also, as a nerd myself, I can’t say it bothers me all that much. We’ve...
while cleaning thomas' printing machine some days...
me: whoa, that looks mighty fine now. i bet typography printed on the clean machine looks a lot happier now.
thomas: (snickers) absolutely!
m.: but i wonder, -how’d you sell that to a customer?
t.: i’ll show them.
m.: they won’t see it.
t.: i’ll tell ‘em.
m.: nah. they won’t see it. they’ll ask: “how do you know, -the type’s...

WHOHOO! →
this just saved my (admittedly quite miserable) day. i say thanks.
the nom. we had it.
made japanese noodle soup yesterday (you remember my recent jonesing for udon). it was quite delicious, but i didn’t quite nail it. i came to the conclusion that ready.made ingredients are not good enough, though they come handy whenyou are in a hurry. take instant dashi, -it somewhat was a bit short on umame and not clear enough at all, so next time i’ll produce a large batch myself...
i am getting a little misanthropic these days.
i have no clue, what’s wrong with the world today (and yesterday, hopefully not tomorrow, too), -the plethora of the public display of utter stupidity is absolutely overwhelming.
also, it makes me a little ….triggerhappy.
(no, seriously, if i think back to the bloke we met yesterday night in my favourite watering hole, that first of all seated himself at our table without even...
FISTING? SERIOUSLY?
the vatican on youtube
i am just reading in the newspapers, -the vatican gets an own youtube channel. a spokesperson of radio vatican (who is responsible for the whole charade) commented regarding the internet with the following (and i am quoting here): ”[…] one might wonder, wheter the [intellectual -ed.] standard of the internet is not too low for the [catholic -ed.] church. but in this instance we must...
new words
gherkin = [dt.] (Gewürz-/ saures) Gürkchen.
the etymology of that one is pretty funny. at least to me.
(but i am the bloke who just got up and still feels queasy from yesterday evening)

just read the customer reviews. they saved my morning after a major thunderbird crash.
[thanks to xeni jardin pointing it out on twitter]
now, that’s minimalism. love it.
okay, i gave in
i am using (well, -not yet really) twitter now.

as a passionate (summer) bicyclist (in germany) i find this highly amusing.

i do not quite know, what to say...
This is probably the most misguided and weird thing i have read in quite a long time.
Linux is illegal/bad for kids? seriously?
(my deepest and heartfelt respect to mr. starks for his patience in answering that utter horseshite. i in his place would have found myself incapable of this kind of politeness.)
edit: application of this probably would have prevented this all, -and so much more.
windows installed
took me 1.75 hours to do so. installing a sata-raid under xp proves still am immense problem, obviously…
now: drivers and updates.
and here we go again...
installing xp. yay.
on bsg
i don’t quite know what to make of yesterdays first episode of season fourpointfive. which is somewhat disappointing, because i have been drooling jonesing for bsg for a tad bit over a year.
only thing i can say: look at dualla, that is what real depression looks like.
windows. it is such a nuisance.
yesterday it occured to me that the last re-install of my workstation (workstation not in the classical sense but in contrast to my laptop, which main purpose is that of communication an presentation) is about six months ago. as far as i know, microsoft recommends a reinstall of windows every six months (remind my to find a citation for this…it’s something “i just know”)....
dirt
just finished 7 hours of work helping my printer Thomas cleaning his printing machine. seven hours of scraping engine-pus, grease and paper-dust out of the belly of a steel beast. it was glorious. and very, very funny.
imagine: typefaces being printed on a clean machine are a lot happier than others! take, for instance, a Bodoni. printed on a regular machine, she looks all grave and no fun. but...
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky
is probably the most buggy piece of software i have ever seen. it just caused five BSODs in a row.
which is sad, because (when running) it is quite enjoyable.
now, that sounds interesting... →

(not exactly sober) i am watching star wars right now while i am inventing new phrases like “being involved with some serious crimson arse drenching”. i am a little worried about the state of my mind.
edit: this could be the moment i begin considering twitter an acceptable medium of communication. i mean, “crimson arse drenching” could be anything, isn’t it?!

on tv
yesterdays episode of the unit was very weird. the jesus-stick? seriously?
It’s monday alright? right?!
– just caught myself asking myself exactly that. damn.
yay, parcour in copenhagen.
this place needs tweaking.
on the css mainly. sorry, -the links in the last post are somewhat hard to make out. and i am momentarily way too messed up (brainwise, -didn’t sleep tonight, who need sleep if you can have bourbon?) to take care of it right away.
so, think of looking for easter eggs, will you?
edit: it also could be something wrong with my eyes. bourbon will do such things to your eyes. as will a...
monday morning link roundup
because even opera can’t handle the plethora of tabs i have open. sorry, if it comes across a little snappy. got to get that stuff off my chest.
“resampled space” by Filip Dujardin. can’t seem to find descriptive words for it, its looking too weird. see for yourselves.
some quite remarkable shots of a hunting kingfisher here. (call it your monday-morning-nature-fix, ye...
